Making an Impact Annual Highlights

Bringing Hope to a Crisis

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana launched a statewide educational campaign in 2018 called The Big Blue Sky InitiativeSM to help fight opioid abuse, suicide, and rising meth and heroin addiction across Montana. We’re working with health care providers, government agencies and community groups — so we all get through this together.

Investing in Community Partners to Improve Health

We invested $1.2 million in our nonprofit partners in 2018 to improve access to resources for healthier lives and communities. For example, we provided balls, hoops and T-shirts to support an annual basketball tournament organized by the Head Start program on the Crow Reservation in Southeast Montana.

Making Connections in Our Communities

In 2018, employees recorded more than 7,000 hours of service with more than 100 organizations across Montana. Meet our 2018 Volunteer of the Year, Sam Allen, who has dedicated his time and skills to Habitat for Humanity, 4-H, the Helena Trap Club and many other causes over the past 20 years.

Bridging Gaps in Preventive Care

Having to travel long distances to see doctors can affect our health and well-being. That’s why the Caring Foundation of Montana is working to effectively shrink our state, bringing preventive care directly to people who need it. In 2018, the Care Van mobile health program helped deliver vaccinations and other services to more than 4,500 Montanans.
